The Washington Spirit have signed French defender Annaig Butel to a two-year contract.
The deal announced Thursday runs through the 2024 NWSL season. It took effect when her contract with Paris FC expired earlier this month.
Butel, 31, will occupy an international slot on the Spirit’s roster.
She has played nearly her entire career with Paris FC, appearing in more than 250 matches since 2008.
“I am really happy and proud to join the club and its project,” Butel said. “I have only played in one city in Europe, and I can’t wait to meet our fans and for Washington to become my second home, away from home.”
She earned 10 caps with the French national team from 2013-18.
“Annaig has special attacking and defensive qualities. With this addition, we can continue to develop our style of play,” Spirit coach Mark Parsons said. “We look forward to Annaig arriving and settling in with our fantastic group.”
