Wrexham soccer club owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney are part of a group that purchased a 24 percent stake in Formula One racing team Alpine Racing on Monday.
The deal, estimated at $218.10 million, was announced by Alpine’s parent company, Renault.
Reynolds, an actor best known for his “Deadpool” movies, and McElhenney are part of the group that also includes Otro Capital and RedBird Capital Partners. Reynolds and McElhenney – along with fellow actor Michael B. Jordan – own Maximum Effort Investments.
Otro co-founder Alec Scheiner will join the Alpine board of directors.
The docuseries “Welcome to Wrexham” became immensely popular after Reynolds and McElhenney took over the Welsh soccer club in November 2020.
Alpine Racing finished fourth in the F1 championship last year and currently sits fifth after eight races in 2023. Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly are the Alpine drivers this season.
