Iowa extends contract of women’s coach Lisa Bluder

Iowa and women’s basketball coach Lisa Bluder agreed to a two-year contract extension through June 2029.

Bluder, who led the Hawkeyes to their first national championship game in the 2022-23 season, is entering her 24th season in Iowa City. Financial terms were not announced, but The Athletic reported she will earn a $1 million base salary, plus $400,000 in guaranteed supplemental income and a $250,000 longevity bonus.

She has the potential to earn additional bonuses based on the team’s success.

She has a 850-391 (.685) overall record. Her mark at Iowa is 494-249 (.664), and she is the school’s all-time winningest coach. Only 14 Division I coaches have won 850 games or more.

“Lisa has been an incredible leader for Iowa Women’s Basketball over many years,” athletic Gary Barta said Friday. “Her ability to achieve sustained success at such a high level is remarkable.”

Under Bluder, the Hawkeyes have made 21 postseason appearances (17 NCAA and four WNIT) in 23 seasons, including 13 NCAA Tournaments in the past 15 seasons. She was named Naismith National Coach of the Year in 2019 and has coached two consensus National Player of the Year award winners: Caitlin Clark (2023) and Megan Gustafson (2019).

LSU beat Iowa 102-85 in the national title game on April 2.
